Scribble Picnic - Hearts

These pictures are sooooooooo bad.  It's snowing here and I can't get a good picture of either of these, but I'm going ahead with the post for Scribble Picnic's Heart theme.   I've missed the last couple of themes due to other projects that I was involved in but I got a little bit of mojo going the other night to try some tangling.  This tangle is called Hearty Way Bop - I'm sure there's a story behind it but I haven't found it.  I've included the step-out below that I found on the Zentangle Blog.  This is one of their official tangles.

I made my variation of it on a 3"x3" tile and added some watercolor pencil.

Here's an older piece that I did back in 2017 in colored pencil. I'm pretty sure it was posted here before but I'm sharing it again for the picnickers.

It currently looks like there isn't much picnicking going on over at Dotty Hill, but I'll be heading over there just to say hello to whoever braved the weather today.  You can check out the other "hearts" by clicking here.

Scribble Picnic - HOLIDAY PARTY

We have standing plans on New Year's Eve to spend it with our Table 7 family.  The location is rotated every year, the menu is changed up year-to-year, some "activities" may change year-to-year, but the one constant is beer pong.  This is not your current college beer pong format of throwing the ball at the cup(s).  No.  This is the original form of beer pong.  Played on a ping pong table with paddles, a ball, and cups of beer.

Full cups of beer are placed at specific points on the table.  If it's a singles game, the cup is one paddle up from the edge on the center line - 2 cups on the table.  If it's doubles, the cup is one paddle in from the lower edge and the side edge - 4 cups on the table.  When playing doubles they have to alternate serves and hits just like conventional ping pong.  The object being to hit the opponent's cup to make them take a drink - usually 4 sips to a cup.  If you get the ball in the cup they have to chug a whole cup.  Our male counterparts in this Table 7 family have been playing this game this way since 1973 when one of them (HWNSNBP) learned the game in college and subsequently brought it back for the gang to play.

Though they may have slowed down over the years, they are still very capable of hitting the cup as you can see in the video below.

These days they're usually only good for about 5 games, but there have been other occasions when they've been at it all afternoon in tournament form.

There are 9 members of this Table 7 family.  All but one of us grew up in the same town.  All but two of us went to the same high school.  The longest friendship of the group are two that have known each other since first grade.  We began calling ourselves Table 7 when the first child of the group got married and we were assigned Table 7 at the wedding.  Since then, it is an unwritten rule that no matter where in the room they put us, our table is 7.

In the past, for our NYE menu, we've tackled sub sandwiches, lasagna night, chili night, pizza night, and we even had a meatloaf cook-off a couple of years ago that evolved from a little bit of bragging of who had the best recipe.  This year we opted for Sicilian pizza's and all brought our own favorite toppings.  There are always some delicious appetizers and we are never at a loss for desserts as we all usually have goodies left from the holidays that we bring to share.  We reminisce and laugh until our sides hurt - there have been many good stories along the years.  We toast in the New Year with the NYC ball drop with the traditional champagne and sparkling cider.

It's not fancy but it's fun and we all look forward to having many more years together.

Whew, I know that was long, and it's late - I had all but forgotten that today was the day for this Scribble Picnic challenge and then I saw Christine's post on Instagram this morning and knew what I would be doing right after work today.   However, we decided to run some quick errands tonight, kind of a wild goose chase you might say which I will post about at another time.  So I got an even later start.  So right now, before the time frame runs out, I will draw and end to this and head on over to Michael's blog to see how the other picnickers are celebrating their holiday parties.  You can join me by clicking here.

Scribble Picnic - Say Goodbye to Autumn

Well, our Scribble Picnic theme for this fortnight is GOODBYE AUTUMN and I think we have.  At least here in New Jersey.  We've already had our first snow the week before Thanksgiving and it was an early Thanksgiving at that.  So my piece below is a little after-the-fact.

We caught a little of what was left of the color on the way to Delaware for Thanksgiving dinner at our daughter's house.  We had made that trip a few weeks earlier and the colors were so intense and beautiful the time of day that we were traveling.  I do think the angle of the sun during the fall really highlights the show of color.

That same night on the way home we played tag with the full moon.

Flipping back to the day of the snow - we had an early dismissal at school and when I got home the birds were all taking their turns at the bird feeders.  I happened to catch this bluebird as it was waiting it's turn.

Time to check out who else joined the picnic this week.  If you'd care to jump in, our theme due in two weeks is "A Few of My Favorite Things".  Sounds like fun, doesn't it!

Scribble Picnic - Forest (In the Works)

Anybody out there remember my "Thursday's Throw Aways"?  For a brief period I did a weekly post featuring a project that recycled or reused something.  I've got a project like that in the works right now and I thought it would fit in with the Scribble Picnic theme of "FOREST".

The material I'm recycling is paper - the kind that you get in the mail in the form of postcard-like advertisements.  The more colorful the better.  And since I have access to the recycling bin in the office at school, I have an additional source besides our home recycling.  The weight of the paper is heavier than your regular cardstock and these postcards are laminated so they have a sheen all their own.

I used a die from Concord & 9th - Take a Bough - and I just kept at it until I had enough of a pile of boughs to make my first tree.

I needed 12 of each of the horizontal boughs and 4 each of the ones that can also double as snowflakes.

First I glued together 2 sets of each size just as they were.  Then I cut the rest in half and overlapped the holes to make sections that were slightly smaller.  The snowflakes were just doubled up.  All totaled there are 18 layers to this tree.

The center hole is 1/8" and calls for a dowel of that diameter which HWNSNBP tried to find in several stores for me without any luck.  Then I thought I should check out my wood stash (yes, I have a wood stash that includes all sorts of wooden things that I used to use in my crafting years ago).  I found another item that I can recycle - the dowel I used is actually a stick from a rock candy lollipop and it has a wooden bead at the bottom end.  I remember saving these to make felt carousel horse Christmas ornaments......another project that didn't come to fruition...............yet.  (There's always hope!)  Oh, and there will be a star for the topper.

I am really pleased with how this came out.  It kind of reminds me of some of the metalwork that I've seen coming out of Central and South America.

HWNSNBP has some birch branches that I think would be great for bases for these.

I can't wait to make a whole forest of them.

I hope my friends at the picnic will be okay with this project for our theme this week.  I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has come up with.  You know you can join in at anytime if you like.  Our next theme due two weeks from now is GOODBYE AUTUMN.  (News flash - our autumn here in NJ is going to be winter much sooner than anticipated with snow forecast for this Thursday....... and I haven't even gotten out my Snow Day Wand yet!)

The End of Inktober with a Double Pinch of Scribble Picnic

Inktober comes to an end today.  I have enjoyed doing this daily challenge but I'm looking forward to getting back to using different art supplies again.  I know HWNSNBP is also looking forward to getting some of these art supplies off the dining room table as I've taken advantage and spread my "stuff" out, but now it's time to get things in order for the holidays.  Oh, I can't believe tomorrow will be November already.

Day 26 - STRETCH
Some neon rubber bands.

Day 27 - THUNDER
Or in this case, Thunderbird.

Day 28 - GIFT
Should be self-explanatory I hope.

Day 29 - DOUBLE
And here is my entry for Scribble Picnic this week which also is DOUBLE (or JOLT).  I recently saw a photo of a castle in France that had the facade painted incorporating these pixellated 3-story skulls in very vibrant colors.  The rest was covered in polka dots.  Very bizarre, yet beautiful.  The windows were eyes.  So since the prompt was DOUBLE I used facing pages for these double skulls.  Fits the season - no?

Day 30 - JOLT (off prompt)
Instead a rendition of some sort of moss that was on a rock bordering one of our plantings. HWNSNBP told me to come outside with my camera to see something which turned out to be mushrooms that were growing in the garden bed on the side of the garage that resembled penises.  This is not the first time that we've had these in the yard, but these appeared to be a different variety. And although I did take a picture of them, my eye was drawn to this moss (or it could be a lichen - not sure) that was growing on the rock.  There were several patches of it and the closer I looked the more interesting it was.  So this is what I have for this date.

Day 31 - SLICE
One of the local bistro's was offering plain pizzas for $5 today as a Halloween special so pizza slice was on my mind.  But I wanted to somehow fit Halloween into this and went with a tangled pumpkin of sorts, which if you notice does have 8 slices like a pizza would, but don't look too closely or you will see the mistake that I made coloring it.

I hope that you enjoyed viewing these Inktober pieces.  I feel a sense of accomplishment having completed the whole month, but like I said at the start, I will be glad to be able to have more choice of the media to use and also to work at my leisure.  There's always so much that I want to do but the drawback is the limited amount of creative time that I have.  I was contemplating another challenge for the beginning of November (a 10-day Square-a-Thon on Instagram) but think I will pass so I can make sure that I'm on track for a more enjoyable December coming up.

Now I will ask you to join me in checking out the other entries at the picnic this week.  You can by clicking here.  The next theme will be FOREST due on November 11th should you like to join in.

Scribble Picnic - BOTTLE

This fortnight Michael has given us the theme of BOTTLE.  It happens that tomorrow's prompt for Inktober is also bottle so again I'm squeezing the two together.  (If you want to see my latest Inktober post click here.)

Who remembers Chianti bottles with dripping candles in Italian restaurants?  I think initially there were only white candles but during the color explosion of the 60's and 70's you could get candles that dripped in many colors.  I was very surprised to see that you can still get these candles on Etsy and Ebay.  I guess I really shouldn't be surprised about that, there's a lot of nostalgic items out there.

The candle in the bottle looked so lonely there that I added the checkered tablecloth-like background which I kind of regret.  But it will have to do for now.

So, let's scoot over to Michael MacVean's place on Dotty Hill to check in with the other picnickers.  Won't you join us?  And should you like to give it a try, the theme for 10/30 is JOLT or DOUBLE.

Inktober/Scribble Picnic

I'm including my Scribble Picnic Chicken in this post introducing my Inktober for 2018.  (Picnicker's - if you want to scroll to the end, feel free.)

I was reading a post on a blog recently where the author had done a review of a product called Zen Pink Pig Sketchbooks.  The review was good and those pigs on the inside tissue liner were a big selling point for me.  Don't they look like they're flying?  So I partook of some retail therapy and ordered myself this little sketchbook with a royal blue handmade paper-covered cover from Amazon and it came just in time for me to use for Inktober as there are more than enough sheets in there for the entire month.

I'm not committing to following the prompts for Inktober.  It's nice to have them, but I'm choosing to be flexible about it.  If an idea comes easy enough for the prompt I'll use it, otherwise I'm going to rely on whatever comes easily to me.

On Day 1 I made reference to some of the names that are currently flying around about October.  The tv weatherman that we watch has also given it the moniker of Warmtober because we're experiencing unusually warm temps.

Day 2 - Tranquil
We probably did our last fishing from the dock last Saturday and the water there was the inspiration for this.  Even though there are people around us, there is a tranquility in standing with the fishing rod in your hand, the light wind blowing in your face, and watching the bobber pitch and bob with the waves.  It's almost mesmerizing to see the fractals the water makes.  I'll miss it until next summer.

Day 3 - Roasted.
So this is where I married the challenges of Scribble Picnic Chicken and Inktober Roasted.  I suppose I could have drawn a chicken on a spit, but this chicken was so pretty that I didn't want to kill her.  Er, him.  Chicken to Rooster to Roasted - reminds me of one of those word games we used to play.  Or you could say that I'm too Chicken to Roast this Rooster.

Time to head over to the picnic and check out all the other chicks, er CHICKENS.  Won't you join my by clicking here.  The next theme is BOTTLE and is due 10/17.  We'd love to have you play along.

Scribble Picnic - Explore

The Scribble Picnic Summer Hiatus is now officially over and we are once again picnicking.  Our host Michael and his lovely wife Alexandra are picnicking in new surroundings having moved from Colorado to Kentucky this summer.  We're taking our cue from their new "explorations" to share a little exploring of our own this time.

One place that HWNSNBP and I like to explore is Barnegat Light, NJ where you can find Old Barney standing steadfast marking the inlet there.  There is a rock jetty along the inlet that extends about a mile to get to the Atlantic Ocean.  Part of the jetty has a cement walkway on top of the rocks with guardrails.  At the end of the walkway, the nimble ones (of which I am not so much anymore) are able to slip through the guardrail and either continue on the rocks to the ocean or climb down off of them to the sand and continue the walk there.  Water often collects along the inside of these rocks during high tide causing tide pools strewn with smaller rocks.  You can often find birds foraging in these waters.  This area of the island is a protected area for migrating birds that come here to nest.  We've seen many types of birds there.  Here is a link with more info on it:  Barnegat Light.

We like to bring our bikes to Barnegat Light early Saturday or Sunday mornings for a quick ride around the area.  The scenery is great, it's flat, and we have a 5-mile circuit we like to take.  Most times at the end, we'll pick up pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches (or split one) sitting at the picnic tables along the other side of the lighthouse.  (I know if you're not from New Jersey you won't know what pork roll is, but trust me, it's very good.)  We do some people-watching as well as boat watching there.  We haven't fished there ourselves in a while - maybe this fall.

I also did some exploring with new art supplies.  I splurged on a set of Arteza brush pens and I've been playing around with them a little.  (Purple mountain majesties anyone? Amber waves of grain?)

What I really have to "explore" is this mess on the dining room table.  I know there are creative people out there who are very neat.  I am not one of them.  I won't apologize for it.  I am comfortable in my own chaos.  I don't ask others to be.  But honestly, it doesn't always look like this.  I'm still trying to get back into a creative schedule now that school has started again.  "I'm doing the best I can."  My new mantra for the year. (Take it anyway you like.)

So, off to Dotty Hill to join all the picnickers and see what they've got to EXPLORE.  You can check it out too by clicking here.

Jingle Belles - Stars and/or Stripes AND Scribble Picnic - STARS

Woohoo! I don't usually do a card for Scribble Picnic, but as the themes this fortnight was the same as Jingle Belles it seemed written in the STARS.

When I saw the theme for Jingle Belles I thought I remembered having recently purchasing a star die with a scene in it.  But not being able to put my fingers on it quickly, and with time running out, I decided to go with another die, or dies.  I used my SU layered star, along with a Hero Arts star ornament die, and I'll have to look up that twig wreath die if you need to know.   The stamps on the top star and the sentiment also go along with the Hero Arts set.

I wanted to stay away from a brown twiggy wreath and luckily found a matte gold piece of a fancy pastry box I had in my recycling stash.  The sentiment is embossed in gold and the secret I will divulge here is that it is covering the hole in the star point that makes that star an ornament.

I've been in a card-making funk lately with some rather uninspired designs, but I'm very happy with this one.  Despite it having 6 layers, it came together pretty easily if you don't count the time I spent frantically searching for that little sentiment stamp which had attached itself to the die package.  HWNSNBP came up to ask me something whilst I was looking for it and quickly exited the room after asking me what I was doing.  But the good news was, while I was searching for that I found the new star die!  Well, maybe I might have time for one more Jingle Belle Star card.

In the meantime, I hope the Picnickers don't mind me sharing this at the picnic this week.  I'll come back to add the link to Scribble Picnic so you can visit along with me.  But now I need to see all the Stars and/or Strips over at Jingle Belles.

Edited to add the link to Scribble Picnic.  And next week the theme is HOT DOG.

Scribble Picnic - CRUNCHY

CRUNCHY - the sound of biting into many things.  In this case, it is the sound made by the foot of the Chee-toe monster whose toes and feet resemble (and taste like) those infamous crunchy Cheetos snacks which is how, of course, he got his name.

So I was going to bring something CRUNCHY to the picnic this week.   And I did find a recipe for Cheetos cookies which are supposed to taste like a sugar cookie with a sweet cheesy bite.  But I held back for a few reasons:  1) the recipe is in grams (yes I know I can convert it but did I really want to go through the math?), 2) if I bought a bag and did not use them all, who would wind up eating them (someone who thinks he resembles Tweedledum lately), and 3) who would eat them (because although I would definitely try them, I'm not in work this week so there would be no one to share them with as HWNSNBP is not a sweet eater).  Then again, I could have mailed them to the PICNICKERS but I don't have any addresses.  So you have the link to the recipe to try for yourselves.

And now, it's time to see what other CRUNCHY things are going to be shared at the Scribble Picnic this week.  You can check it out by clicking here.  And with the 4th of July being next week, we have a week off and will resume in two weeks with the theme of STARS.

Scribble Picnic - PLUMP

Here's a hint - don't ever ask my husband to explain what he sees because it's usually what he thinks he should be seeing only he spurts it out before thinking about what he's saying.  For instance, tonight

Me - "Do you know who this is?"

Him - "You and me."

Yes, he's still alive, though I may be referring to him as Tweedledum from now on.

I combined my ICAD and our Scribble Picnic prompt again this week.  The ICAD prompt was "Greetings from" and, as in the title, Scribble Picnic is PLUMP.  So Tweedledee and Tweedledum happened to pop into my head as a good combination of both.

Two more days of school and then I can relax a little.  I've been working later than normal this week trying to clear things up by Friday as they've moved up completion dates on things we haven't had to do before.  Just what I needed!

So Picnickers, forgive me if I don't get to you until tomorrow.  I'm fading fast here, but I do want to visit.  Scribble Picnic is just a click away.  And should anyone like to join in next week the theme is CRUNCHY.

Scribble Picnic - 3 Colors

The theme this week was to use only 3 colors.  Though this is not at all like the samples that Michael shared with us, it does only use 3 colors (not counting white which was allowed).  This is the Piping Plover and her chick which are endangered and found here on our New Jersey coastline.  You will often find their nesting areas roped off as their nest is really just a small depression in the sand making it much too easy for predators to find.  As with a lot of animals, the plover's colors help to camouflage it but their eggs and their chicks are often stepped on or run over on the beaches because they are so well camouflaged.  Crows and foxes and some varieties of gulls will eat them.

Okay, I'm off to the picnic now to check out all the Picnicker's choices of 3 colors.  You can join me by clicking here.  And should you care to join in next week the theme is PLUMP.

Scribble Picnic - CLASSIC

It's picnic time again.  This week the prompt is CLASSIC and I may be breaking the rules again, but I'm going to combine my Scribble Picnic entry with my ICAD entry for the day.  The ICAD prompt is CAROUSEL.  Okay, so reading this perhaps you would be expecting a CLASSIC CAROUSEL and had I not been so blinking tired I might have endeavored down that path.  But alas, it's the last few weeks of the school year and they truly are exhausting as we race to the finish.  So much has to get done before the students and staff leave, but I'm not going to waste any more time here describing chaos.  Instead I will tell you that I revisited this prompt from the first year that I did ICAD. That card was a collaged card with a similar story without the CLASSIC part.

To this card I actually added/illustrated the CLASSIC Ice Cream Truck mentioned in the story of Carowl Sel.

To Michael and all the Picnickers - I hope you don't mind this little bit of rule breaking.  I'm looking forward to seeing all the CLASSIC creations for the picnic this week.  You can check them out too by clicking here.

Scribble Picnic - STORM

I think it might be a tad bit odd to bring a STORM to a picnic, but that's what we've been asked to do.  Yesterday we had quite a storm here.  When the temperature drops from 89º to 69º or less you know that cold front is coming through and bringing the thunder with it.  Luckily I was indoors during the heat of the day and got home before the skies opened up.   Yes, a good storm complete with wind, sideways rain, thunder and lightning.  Thankfully, the lights only flickered once and didn't go off.  Compared to conditions a little further northeast of here, we dodged the worst of it.

Anyway, my STORM comes in another form this week.  My office mate has a couple of horses and one of them (on the left in the picture) is named STORM.  The other is Baxter.  This watercolor was inspired by a photo that someone took of her horses last fall that she posted on Facebook.

When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston last September, our teachers, along with our student leadership group, organized a Walk-a-Thon.  Our Stony Brook Huskies raised over $12,000 for Northline Elementary School in Houston.   Our students and staff walked laps around our playground calculated to be the distance between our school and the school in Texas.  Storm and Baxter came that day and were ridden by my office partner and her husband in the center of it all.  Our principal wore a back pack filled with coins collected from lunchroom change during the two weeks prior to the walk.  It was over 50lbs. of coins.  Several days after the event the students of Stony Brook and the students of Northline Elementary met via a skyped assembly.  It was a great feeling to be able to help them replenish things that were lost in the storm.

What's been a bit odd here is the intensity of the "greenness".  Rachel came up from Delaware on Sunday to take me to lunch for Mother's Day and remarked how everything looked so unusually green.  We've been having a lot of gray overcast days lately and I think the lighting has something to do with it.  Right now, looking into part of the back yard that's now missing my favorite oak, it's mostly ombre green.  The daffodils are done, and the redbuds have lost their magenta buds.  The peonies are not ready yet, but just out of the picture on both sides there are a few white dogwoods adding a little lightness to the greenscape.  Mother's Day weekend and after are when the annuals go in.  HWNSNBP will be busy with that - under my direction of course.

Well, enough rambling on.  Time to get over to the picnic to see what other STORMS are brewing!  You can join me by clicking here.  And make note that we have a couple of weeks off.  Our next picnic isn't until 6/6.

Scribble Picnic - STRAWBERRY

The theme for Scribble Picnic this week is STRAWBERRY.   These little garden fairies are trying to bring this one to their picnic.  It's pretty big compared to them, but they have plenty more friends to share it with.  You probably can't see them, but they're buzzing around your head right now!  Oh, don't worry, they're not nasty like gnats.

I'll be stopping by the picnic later today to see all the STRAWBERRY creations.  And I hear there's a STORM brewing for the picnic next week before we take a two-week vacation.  Gee, I hope no one gets blown away!

Scribble Picnic - PICKET FENCE

I love picket fences.  We have a short stretch of picket fencing in our backyard that started out with the traditional wooden white fence, but over the years the wood deteriorated and rather than spend a lot of time repairing and repainting, since it was not a lengthy endeavor, we opted to replace it with a vinyl fence and I'm glad we did.

My painting is not of our yard though.  It was inspired by a photo on a blog I follow from many years back.  The fence is not your traditional white fence, it's the natural light wood color.  Perhaps they hadn't gotten around to painting it yet.  Perhaps they never will.  It will do it's job one way or another.

I'll be heading over to Michael's now to see all the lovely fences everyone is featuring this week. You can also check them out by clicking here.

Scribble Picnic - QUILTS

We're supposed to bring QUILTS to the picnic this week.  I don't have a scribbled quilt but I do have a paper quilt.  Well, the start of a paper quilt with the help of a new Neat and Tangled die.  I die cut a few different colors and played with possible combinations knowing that I wanted the green as my background.

And I decided that I wanted the blue as the framework.

Because I was going to add this watercolored stamped image.

A
And then I added some yellow.
B
And more blue.
C

I decided to stay totally away from the lavender and pink and I haven't glued anything down yet so can you help me decide which looks best - A, B, or C so I can finish this quilt card?  Choosing colors was always the problem I had when making a quilt.  I think I spent more time in the fabric store trying to make up my mind.  There are just so many patterns and colors to choose from.  I thought it would be simpler using non-patterned paper for this.

And now I have all the other colors I can use, along with some patterned papers to make some more quilted cards.  There is a bonus in that.

Speaking of bonuses - there are more quilts to check out over at Michael's Scribble Picnic.  Time to stop by and visit.  You can too by clicking here.  And should you care to join in next week the theme is PICKET FENCE.

Scribble Picnic - PAJAMAS or PYJAMAS

This week's theme for the Picnic is Pajamas or Pyjamas.  (My computer spellcheck feature underscores pyjamas but it also underscores words like colour and theatre and favourite which are not wrong but just spelled differently depending where you're from.)

Now I like a good "pajama day".  What's that? you might ask.  That's where you know you're not going out anywhere, the weather is usually bad, and you stay comfortably in your pj's all day.  It might involve taking a little "bird bath" and keeping those jammies on, or showering up and putting on a fresh pair.  Hygiene aside - however you're comfortable is fine.  I've had a couple of pajama days this winter coinciding with the snow days we had off from school.  Below is a picture of my grandson his mom sent me from his pajama day he had when daycare closed because of snow.  Doesn't everyone wear boots over their jammies when they Swiffer the windows?  (He LOVES sweeping!)

Initially I thought I would try to recreate that scene, but, falling short of time as I usually do I opted to go another direction.

When I was substitute teaching, I often was called to the lower elementary school - grades K-2 at the time.  I loved working with the younger children.  Every sub has their favorite age group I'm sure.  I once did a long-term sub assignment for the vocal music teacher.  One of the songs that she had me work on with the youngest students was "Bananas in Pajamas".  After being there for a couple of weeks, it became quite an "earworm" - that and the second-graders singing "I Can't Spell Hippopotamus".

I must admit that I did not know that this was a cartoon of sorts.  I just thought it was a kid's song.

I don't sub anymore, I've been working in the office for 14 years now.  Amongst my duties is updating attendance.  This is our late sign-in sheet for today.  The second student has been late a few times in the last month or so and every time his dad cracks me up with the reasons.  "Sock wars" today.  One day it was "procrastinating" and the boy gave him a look like "really?"  Dad just shot back at him with, "well, it's either that or dilly-dallying"  you choose".

Below that, a grandma came in with her twin grandsons and she looked like she'd been through the mill.  Reason - dog ran away.  Poor grandma had to help the boys round up the dog and they missed the bus so she had to drive them to school.  I felt bad because I think she was still in her pajamas!

Time to see the Pajama fashion show at the picnic.
