Scribble Picnic - SPICY

Mama Mia!  It's a SPICY picnic we're having this week.  What to bring....... what to bring........

This goes wwwwwaaaaayyyyy back to 1969 when I was in my early teenage years and this TV commercial left an impression with it's tagline - "Mama Mia!  That's a spicy meatball!"  Not having another feasible idea for this challenge I did some internet investigation and came upon the actual commercial on Youtube.  You might notice that there's no product visible in my drawing.  Well, there was no product visible in the commercial either during this scene, which included Mama and a jar of sauce.  You would think that the commercial was about the sauce, but it was not.  It was an Alka-Seltzer commercial!  That'sa some speecy spicy meatball!

I've been under the weather this week and didn't think I would make it to the picnic, but I persevered with this sketch and as you can see from above, made a mess smudging the pencil all over the place.

Then I tried to clean it up with an eraser and add some color.  IRL it does look better.

I'll be visiting the rest of the picnickers a little later, right now I think I need a nap.  I should be back later to add the upcoming prompt for next week.

Edited to add the theme for next week's picnic is LET'S DANCE!

  1. Lorraine! LOL...I watched that commercial this morning because I vaguely remembered it just from that phrase! I love how they did it with all the cuts and retakes. Your drawing is fabulous!

    1. It was a bit hard coming up with something. I don't usually like to draw people's faces. But it was good practice I guess.

  3. Oh, the Spicy Meatballs, I had forgotten about them ... How very cool, Lorraine. Sorry you are under the weather. This time of year there are all kinds of bugs running around. Hope getting rest and drinking fluids help you feel better. In answer to your question, I don't use milk or bread ... I eat cucumbers and they cool my throat and have enough moiture in them to rinse away some of the spice. That is what the Thai people do and it seems to work :) Be well, Lorraine ...

    1. I try very hard to not touch door handles and such when I'm out, but the mister is not as careful. Happens all the time. I'm going to have to remember the cucumbers the next time we have chili or anything spicy. Sounds like a good way to deal with it.

  4. What a brilliant take on the theme, Lorraine! Love it. I feel like I've seen a similar take off of this ad before for the same kind of product. I wonder if they updated it later. Well drawn and well done! Now, maybe you should hold off on the spice for now though? :) BTW, new prompts/themese will be up later tonight.

    1. I should have listened to you - I sent my husband out for some spicy Chinese food thinking it might clear things up, but that didn't really work.

  5. Lol! This is such a fun interpretation of the theme! (And, after all of the spicy art submitted this week, we could probably all use a little alka-seltzer!)

  6. Another great take on the theme, Lorraine! How funny that the descriptive commercial was actually for Alka-Seltzer and not the sauce. haha

    1. I have to admit that I don't think I ever realized that until I read about it when looking it up for this challenge.
