So where are my kings? Well, I don't need kings, I just needed three of something and my three of something happens to be those little evergreen trees.
I recently treated myself to the Ocean Borders background stamp from Sweet Honey Bee stamps which I thought could look kind of blizzardy done in white on a dark blue background for this card. The jury is out on that as the embossing is a little suspect even though I did use my Misti. Here's what I did wrong - I cut my paper to the size I wanted it to be finished before I stamped it instead of cutting it larger and trimming it down. It was the wrong way because I wanted the pattern to go to the edges of the paper and that meant I had to pull it away from the inside edge of the Misti but..... since I was using the whole of the stamp, I couldn't use the magnets directly on the cardstock. I thought if I attached some post-its to the back of the cardstock so I had something to hold the paper down with I could make it work, but it moved and blurred when I restamped it. But........ it didn't look all that bad for a blizzard so I stuck with it. Next time I will trim down the paper. Lesson learned.
I was glad I remembered the large snowflake die instead of using a standard geometric shape. I really didn't want to cover too much of the background and originally tried using vellum, but then decided against that and I'm pretty happy that I did.
So....... I have another card in mind for this challenge, but alas, it's coming to it's two-week close so I'll save that for another time. Won't you take a peak with me at all the other wonderful creations the Jingle Belles have come up with for this challenge? Just click here.
Part of the joy of creativity is the learning ... love your tiny trio of trees ... so very glad you joined our solute to trios at Jingle Belles.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right!
Deletei would never have guessed that the stamping and embossing on this was not exactly right if you hadn't told me. and i'm super happy/proud that you learned the lesson BUT STILL USED the panel you felt was "imperfect". i also LOOOOOOOOOOOVE the sentiment being on the large snowflake and was actually going to ask if that was part of the swirly blizzardy design bc it really seems like the PERFECT combination! i'm also kind of marvelling that you've used three SMALL trees but they are still the first thing i noticed and very very much the stars of the show! well done, you, on sooooo many levels! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteThere's always a fine line of too much or too little when I get done. This is so borderline both ways ;)
DeleteI wouldn't worry about blurring - after all, if you're in the middle of a blizzard EVERYTHING is blurry!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI think this looks beautiful. Personally I don't see the blur...but we are usually our own worst critics. Also I think the problem is that we know what was in our mind's eye and where the reality falls short, but the impartial viewer has no preconceptions.
ReplyDeleteI think you hit the nail on the head. I know I'm my worst critic.
