This time we're to bring something One of a Kind to the Picnic. I was tossing around a couple of ideas and thought I had something to go with but I should remember not to do that at work and not write it down because by the time I got home I couldn't remember that "good idea" I thought I had. Luckily, as I was catching up with some posts on Facebook, a friend posted a story about a rare bird sighting - a yellow cardinal - in Alabama. Here is the link to the story, I can't seem to be able to post the video.
According to the write-up, this is a very rare, one-in-a-million bird which I'm stretching to say is currently one of a kind.
I'll be heading over to see what the other Picnickers have brought this week. You can join me by clicking here. And should you endeavor to join in next week, the theme is OPERA.
This is a great choice, what a fascinating discovery and well done Lorraine!
ReplyDeleteThank Mother Nature for the unexpected.
DeleteI would love to see this color cardinal in my garden - just almost unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether male or female and how it's accepted by its usual red and brown cousins.
Your art piece is beautiful Lorraine - definitely one of a kind!
I'm with you Mary. Love to see it myself.
DeleteNow isn't that interesting? Thanks for sharing the link, and your painting of the yellow cardinal is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jolene. Hard to believe, isn't it.
DeleteI read that story on Facebook too ... amazing and beautiful. And, your painting of it is perfect. They said it only happens once a year so it is definitely a "one of a kind" for 2018 :) I would love to see one in real life ... wouldn't you?

So amazing. I'd definitely love to see one.
DeleteI'm so glad you used this. I was visiting Laurie's blog and she was giving a history about this rare yellow cardinal. Very lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wanda. It's pretty interesting.
DeleteI have always thought yellow birds are quite rare and also because I haven't seen a single one of them in person. your art is quite lovely. the bright yellow really pops.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
I think the black mask makes it all the more stunning.
DeleteAmazing—a yellow cardinal. I do like your painting, Lorraine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the link.
Thanks Dixie. Who would have thought "yellow"?
DeleteOh my... wouldn't that be a sight to see. Your drawing is beautiful, a treat in its own right.
ReplyDeleteIt would be such a thrill.
DeleteVery pretty Lorraine :) We rarely see red cardinals here, I think I'd jump for joy if I saw a yellow one! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen pictures of places that have dozens of red ones at a time, but we seldom get more than one pair at a time here.
DeleteA yellow cardinal that is original! Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteThank Mother Nature and the good eyes of that birder in Alabama.
DeleteOh what a beautiful bird and, yes, one I've certainly never herd of before so it's perfect for the theme too. GReat job, Lorraine! Ha, please remember to bring a note book or write it in your phone next time an idea pops to mind! The phone notebook is what I use often but most of the times I do happen to recall my idea. So often, however, funnily enough, it changes as soon as I start drawing something else comes to mind to take precedence over what I had already committed to, mentally.
ReplyDeleteYes, I usually have a notebook with me, I just delude myself to believe that I'm not going to need to write anything done because I'll remember it. I have to realize I'm not as sharp as I used to be!
DeleteI have never heard of a yellow cardinal - that's incredible! I can so identify with the great ideas that come and then vacate the brain, never to be heard from again. Drives me nuts! I resorted to keeping a note pad & pen beside the bed so I could jot down my oh-so-brilliant middle of the night ideas but that soon fell by the wayside - couldn't read my own writing!!
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny. I think I'd find the same thing!
