Snow Day BIrding

Pictures from the kitchen window from last Tuesday's snow day.

Carolina Warblers

Woodpecker

Female cardinal amongst the juncos

Another woodpecker and junco

Male cardinal

Junco and Red-bellied woodpecker

Junco and whitebreasted nuthatch

Whitebreasted nuthatch - very few of these around this year.  Read something recently stating they are on the decline due to West Nile Virus being spread.  Also noting no titmice at all.

  1. Love all your bird photos...I didn't know the nuthatch was declining, I'll have to pay more attention to my feeders. My suet is all gone, so once I replenish it for the upcoming snow on Wednesday, I'll see if we get any nuthatches. I just love those little Carolina wrens too!

  2. I love the bird photos Lorraine! What do you feed them? The Red Bellied Woodpecker is so pretty with his red head, and black and white feathers on his back!

  3. We have a pair of downy woodpeckers that come to our suet every day. I swear they go to sleep sitting on the suet holder because they stay there without moving for the longest time. Great photos today!

  4. I peeked at these on my phone but was waiting to comment till I had a chance to look at them on a big screen. Of course I love the cardinals, and even more the woodpeckers, but most of all I am taken with those Carolina Warblers. Those wedge tails are a little like our wrens, but the beaks are totally different. Now I need to go and look at the bird in "An Open Heart" to see if that's what it actually is.You must have had a wonderful time watching them.
