Scribble Picnic - Octopus

When Christine's Blog came up in my feed today I was instantly intrigued by this new Art Co-op she posted about called Scribble Picnic.  So I did some investigating (shhhh... during work) and decided that I was going to try to make the deadline for the prompt this week when I got home - Octopus.

I used my Koi watercolors and Fantasia Artists Coloured Pencils.  I started by sketching the octopus in a light gray watercolor pencil so the lines would disappear when I added the watercolors.

HWNSNBP recognized this as an octopus but couldn't find the hidden word - can you?  The octopus did it's best.

I'm off to Michael MacVean's blog to check out the other octopi.  You can see them too if you click here.

  2. Lorraine, this is wonderful! I LOVE your pink octopus! And you mentioned Fantasia Artists Coloured Pencils? I've not heard of these and am now intrigued. I feel like I have the world of watercolor supplies at hand in my studio...but not these. My latest find (last summer) are the FABULOUS Tombow brushes that work quite similar to watercolor paints. Anyway, great job!! :)

    1. Thanks Alexandra. I've been trying a lot of colored pencils lately based on other blogger recommendations. These aren't watercolor pencils, but they're soft and easy to use.

  3. What a fantastic idea to have the Octopus spell your name, Lorraine! Wonderful take on this week's theme for Scribble Picnic. :)

  4. OOh it says your name! and you are new here to me adn the new co-op. PErfact. I am soooo impressed you joined in on the last day when you saw it after work, working this up, Lorraine. It's fabulous. I love the octo's bubblegum pink rubbery legs and those darling eyes. Perfect and what a great job on the pencils too. Never heard of those but you obviously know how to use them. Thank you for joining us! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff I hope. I will announce the winner of the co-op tomorrow night....after work for me too! :) It's going to be a fun write up and more news to follow.

Next them as you may have seen, will be "cabin" so less imaginary perhaps but inventive nonetheless. thank you again for playing along! :)

    1. Thanks Michael. I got my pencils on Amazon, but I've seen the same set in AC Moore - don't know if you have one of those where you live. They're just regular colored pencils, not watercolor, but they are soft and not too waxy and blend nice. I hope to keep up with your themes. I like having a week to think about and work on them - of course that wasn't the case today, but sometimes and idea just gets you at the right time.

    1. If you're not seeing it I probably didn't do something the right way so not to worry about the entries.
