We have gone without raises teachers/support staff for 4 years, only to have it taken to fund a rec center and more crap this city does not need. So I feel ya, every one on edge here. for the coming year(s) on what is going to be cut, including the drivers. My hope is that we will continue to move in a direction where we recognize what is truly important in life and begin to value those we entrust with the education of children.Michelle Joy Weckslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15071140824860593282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1044301988472338053.post-4547173418047236592010-06-25T23:03:13.065-04:002010-06-25T23:03:13.065-04:00I agree with you 100 percent.. Our schools here in NC are running on little to nothing.. I am not sure how these kids are ever going to get an education if the keep getting rid of all the staff... Huge hugs and vent away...Dawn B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14337859386410909480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1044301988472338053.post-49443564297463691952010-06-25T16:52:09.071-04:002010-06-25T16:52:09.071-04:00I'm glad you spoke. I have a teaching degree and know the value of teachers. Sorry for all the worry for you. Do what is right and it will work out somehow. I remember you mentioning those budget cuts a while back, and that they might impact you. I am not a teacher - it's not a career I'd choose in a blue moon - but my dad was a teacher and I have many friends who are, and I think that they deserve a lot more respect than they get. And boy, do they ever need those holidays. I was talking to a young friend the other day just doing his final exams and hoping to do junior school teacher training if he does well enough in his exams. He says he wouldn't teach secondary (high shcool) for love or money, though, because at least with the younger ones you don't have to deal with attitude.
There are funding issues here too - even private fee-paying schools are on endless fund-raising drives. But investing in education is investing in the future of the country! And for special needs and disabled kids it's even harder. Each year my brother and his wife don't know whether there will be a class assistant for my oldest nephew, who wouldn't be able to attend mainstream school without.

I hope you have a good weekend after all that. And what a brilliant photo to illustrate it.Sabrinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17522656235476335067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1044301988472338053.post-17328578378634379902010-06-25T16:28:05.220-04:002010-06-25T16:28:05.220-04:00This entire story is going on in way too many town...This entire story is going on in way too many towns Lorriane!
