Scribble Picnic - CURLY

I am a bit "disausted" tonight - the week before school starts is like a whirlwind and I'm still spinning.

My first thought at this prompt CURLY was for hair and who had the most memorable curly hair?  My answer would be Shirley Temple.  She even starred in a movie called "Curly Top".

I've drawn her in pencil and added a running list of her movies.  I think I've seen a lot of them.  What about you?

Here's a more abstract rendition of CURLY I did first but thought it was a little too abstract.

I'm about to take a quick look at all the curls the Picnickers brought this week.  Click here to get a glimpse.  And, as I always say, should you like to jump in next week the prompt is TIE IT UP.

  1. Lorraine, this is such a great sketch of Shirley Temple and I love your idea and rendition of the worded background.
The abstract is interesting too - great textured curls and whirls.
Stay calm, with school back we're all impacted it seems, even when we don't have kids returning. Those were the days!
Good luck to all the little ones just starting their formal education - makes one wonder just what's ahead in this topsy-turvy world!

  3. Lorraine, I like these both! I love the titles added and she def looks like Shirley. Can you believe it, but I've actually never seen even one of her movies-- jsut clips here and there. :) The scene I remember the best is her singing, "On the good ship lollipop, there's a fine place for a candy shop and we'll dance all day on the peppermint bay"...or something like that! Well done.

    1. Glad you like them Michael. Used to be, when I was growing up, that her films were run more even though there were less channels. I think today it's hard to find those "classics" on. And then try to get the young one's to watch something in black and white!!!

  4. I love both your versions but Shirley Temple sure brings back happy memories for me. I loved watching her movies in my younger years...I'm sure I still would. :)

    1. THanks Serena. I recently caught the second half of "Heidi" - one of my favorites. Still very enjoyable to me.

  5. What a great sketch! And Shirley Temple - great idea too. But I also like your abstract coloured curl too.

  6. Oh, I love your abstract one! It both looks like rusty wire and something organic, those plants that wind their tendrils round a support. I feel sure I must have seen Heidi, but if so, that's the only one on your list that I even might have seen. I'm sure they were shown here, I just grew up with no TV.

    1. I didn't see the rustiness before, but now I do. It's nice to see something through a fresh pair of eyes. Afterward I thought it kind of reminded me of a phone cord, but the spirals on that would have to be more consistent in size.

  7. I like the abstract piece, can never be too abstract :)

I've seen a few clips with Shirley Temple in them, but never a whole movie and I should have by now

  8. Like them both. I went through a Shirley Temple binge one summer when I was visiting my parents . . . didn't realize how much I was going to enjoy them. I hope your whirlwind had calmed down. We are two weeks into school and I think I am finally settling in. Enjoying the three day weekend to rest up. Have a great school year!

  9. Lorraine, this is wonderful. I not only love her curly hair and the expression on her face...I LOVE the idea of text behind her as well. I feel it brings even more emotion and connection to your piece. Lovely!!

My apologies for visiting so late! :)

    1. Thanks Alexandra. I know it could have been a lot neater. I have to try and not leave myself to be so rushed. No need for apologies. We all lead busy lives - it's amazing sometimes to find time for art..... and then there's blogging!
