Scribble Picnic - POTTED PLANT

This time of year we're usually making trips mainly to the Great Swamp Nursery for our annuals.  I get to pick out the flowers and HWNSNBP gets to pot them up.  Sounds fair doesn't it (he is color blind after all).  He has a few things planted already, but I decided to go with something that was already in the house.  This lovely orchid plant that the staff gave me for Administrative Professional's Day.  I can't keep it at work because the office temperature fluctuates too much.  With the school being empty on the weekends, in the warmer weather it would be too hot, so I brought it home to join the other orchids I've been lucky enough to keep alive.  I hope it finds it's new home as cozy as they have.

I did the sketch in pencil and asked HWNSNBP (He Whose Name Shall Not Be Published) if he knew what it was.  He said "yes, it's the orchid on the table.  Of course it will look more like an orchid when you color it."  I guess that was a suggestion that I should color it.  So here it is.

I hope you'll take a look at the other plants that the Picnickers are sharing today.  You can by clicking here.  Oh, and should you like to join in next time, the theme is BOOKS.

  1. HAha, Lorraine, that is such a great, witty write up and I love how your refer to your hubs too. Your piece here is wonderful. He may be colour bling but gld he nudged you to colour it. So why yellow vs the more pink hues of the original? I do like the yellow though. Well drawn too. Thank you!

BTW, I have left comments on my blog for the replies, should you care to see those and follow up with what I decide to do for Scribble Picnic for those two weeks.

    1. Thanks Michael. IRL they are yellow with purple spots. I would have liked to get the purple spots to blossom a little more, but they stayed static. Maybe I should try some colored pencil over them.

  2. Nice sketch of such a pretty orchid. It definitely would not survive this dusty, desert climate I live in. Have a good Thursday!

    1. Thanks Tammy. I've been lucky to find a place inside the house where the orchids are happy, though this spring a couple of them seem to have gotten a little sunburned and lost some leaves.

    1. Thank you lissa. I try to stake mine so they look straighter but they stretch toward the sun so they get that curvy look.

  7. Great job–both on your painting and on your work at school. Glad to hear you are appreciated there!
LOL that you asked HWNSNBP if he knew what your sketch was, as I have been known to ask my husband the same question!

    1. Ha! I've learned not to ask him things like "what do you think" because he loves to tease me and say "it's beautiful" or something similar without even looking at it.
