Scribble Picnic - DOOR

I've never before
Seen a purple door
Alongside a tile
That made me smile
In the car we were stuck
because of a truck
I couldn't just look
So a picture I took

I did this over the weekend and meant to go back to add some more detail with some markers and I just might in the future, but for now I'm sharing it as is - crooked on purpose too.

This week's Scribble Picnic theme is DOOR.  Last August we were on our way through Princeton when we inadvertently got stuck in a traffic jam caused by a truck blocking the street ahead of us.  As we were sitting there for a few minutes this little scene caught my eye and I grabbed my camera to get a picture of it because I liked the color combination and thought it might make a pretty card.

Please join me to see what all the other Picnickers have done with this theme by clicking here.  And should you wish to join in next week, the theme is POTTED PLANT.

  1. Lovely door sketch, Lorraine! I would LOVE a purple door. And how lovely your card is...inspired by the Wellness Loft. So pretty!

    1. Thanks Serena. It is such a nice shade of purple isn't it. I wish I could have painted it closer to the right shade.

  2. Your door is so pretty and colorful! And the matching flowers, just right! You thought correctly–it did make a pretty card. So we can be grateful for that truck that made you stuck!

    1. Thank you! Whoever planted that bush knew what they were doing pulling those colors together.

    1. Thanks Wanda. I had those first two lines in my head all the while I was painting so I just had to continue it.

  5. Very interesting that you slanted it. Is that because it is a "wellness centre" and maybe we are just a bit on a slant and need to go in? Love the colours too.

  6. Thanks Janis. I took it from the car so I think it gives it a little sense of moving forward.

  7. The yellow and purple is a fabulous combination! I'm glad that the traffic allowed you time to take the photo to inspire both the card and the sketch.

    1. I'm glad for the traffic too because I know "the driver" would not pull over or go back.

  9. Yes, the poem is totally dear and the art is wonderful too. I so love the colours. Great fortitude to even snap a pic to work on this later. I love what you've done with the Mandela as well, Lorraine, adding the 3D elements too. Great job. Thabk you so much for playing along! :)

Sorry to be visiting later than I would normally though. Also, btw, I did go ahead and write a post to explain the reasons for the bumpers stickers on my last piece, should you care to see that. Did not leave the option for anyone to comment as it's just an FYI but hopefully interesting enough for the casual reader. :)

    1. I actually have you to thank for coming up with that theme that jarred my memory of the door. Otherwise it would have sat in a folder for a very long time. It also gave me the impetus to finally make the card. I admit that I didn't get some of the references of your bumper stickers, but I thought they were very clever. And the polka dotted shade was quite fun.
