Bluebird Birthday

For HWNSNBP.  Happy Birthday my dear!

This card is a case of the talented Karen Barber.  I'll link her gallery here but you might not see this card if you are not a Splitcoast Fan Club Member.  It's a technique called Retiform.

The boxes were created with post-it notes first and were stamped with the images from Nature Walk in Basic Gray Ink.  Then I used my blender pen and inks to color some of the images. With the bluebird I also used my Marina Mist marker full strength.  Then I replaced the post-its again to do the sponging of each box mainly around the edges.  I highlighted some areas with white gel marker and stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from Create a Cupcake in Marina Mist.

I put my spin on this and cut one of my boxes, well a piece of a box, completely out to show the black layer underneath the main panel.  Then I added the ribbons before attaching the main panel to the black background.  That, in turn, was mounted on a base of Marina Mist cs.

This was really fun to put together because it's so random.   The images from Nature Walk and the motif stamp from Bliss work very well together.  I may try this in some other color combinations.  Any suggestions?

  1. This is gorgeous! I tried that technique once...but didn't have anywhere near the gorgeous results you did!

  2. How lovely, I really like the way you cut away a bit from the top to reveal the black, it adds real oomph.
I'd go for oranges and browns and rust colours, but that's just because I'd colour the bird like a robin - your Mr Blue colours are much brighter and happier.
